The challenge

The client runs Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) with more than 20 registered users. Internal calls worked, but outbound calling to the internet telephony service provider had stopped because of SIP configuration issues.

A third-party device had been added as a temporary workaround. It had not fixed the core problem and was not a stable long-term setup.

02

What we did

  • Ran an online diagnostic session and proposed restoring the original, supported architecture: a direct SIP trunk between CME and the provider.
  • Removed the workaround device and its related configuration.
  • Restored and validated SIP trunk registration with the provider.
  • Reviewed and corrected call routing, translations and dial-peer configuration.
  • Validated inbound and outbound calling end to end.
03

Outcome

  • Fixed-price contract completed in one week, from 20 to 27 February 2026, with its milestone accepted.
  • The client reviewed the work as exceeding the scope of works and rated it 5.0 on Upwork.
